Trumbull County elections board notifies voters of machine glitch

WARREN — Voters in Trumbull County and some other places will be alerted to an Election Day glitch on their electronic voting machines.
The elections board staff has discovered a software problem that will cause voters to be unable to see one of the pages of text on state Issue 2 if they attempt to look at the text under a function called "large text."
Kelly Pallante, director of the Trumbull elections board, said most people do not use the function, so it won't affect very many people.
She said a notice will be posted on every voting machine in the county alerting voters to the problem, and the full text of the issue will be available on an 11- by 17-inch sheet at the polls for anyone needing it.
Pallante said voters using the normal-sized text will be able to read everything OK, and voters can still use a magnification lens on the voting machine in combination with the normal-sized text to see everything.
All poll workers have been advised of the problem, Pallante said, adding that it cropped up too late to be fixed in time for the election and has also been found in other Diebold voting machines elsewhere in the state.
Mahoning County does not use Diebold's system; Columbiana County does not use a touch-screen voting system.
