Internet, phone disruptions in area; no early voting at Evansville libraries today (IN)
Evansville Courier and Press 29 October 2008
An outage in some phone and Internet services in the Tri-State has left, among others, the Evansville-Vanderburgh Public Library system without Internet service today, meaning people who want to vote early will have to do so at the Civic Center in Downtown Evansville.
The Civic Center will keep its early voting location open until 8 p.m. tonight to make up for the closures at the libraries, said Evelyn Walker, director of public services for the Evansville-Vanderburgh Public Library system.
A woman answering customer service calls for Norlight, a local telecommunications company, said a line had been cut by a construction crew in Downtown Evansville near the Lloyd Expressway. It has caused an outage in services to many Norlight (formerly Cinergy) customers, and "partial disruptions" to others.
There is no time frame for repair completions, the woman said.
