Centre County Recounts Ballots After Discrepancy (PA)

Centre County election officials gathered for a recount Wednesday morning after questions over the number of ballots cast.
Officials said there was a difference in how one of the new Optiscan machines counted the votes in the 26th precinct, as opposed to the actual number of ballots cat.
Workers were counting the ballots by hand as of noon. Similar vote count problems with two other State College precincts were corrected early Wednesday.
The 26th precinct includes close to 2,000 votes, and the outcome could have an impact on a State College referendum question on whether term limits should be lifted for borough council members.
When the polls closed at 6 p.m., “Maybe five or six people were standing in line,” he said.
