Pentagon Drops E-Voting Test For S.C.
The Pentagon says it will note test an Internet voting project during Tuesday's South Carolina Democratic presidential primary.
A system called the Secure Electronic Registration and Voting Experiment or SERVE was developed for U.S. citizens overseas and is supposed to let would-be voters register and vote just like they would under their local laws and rules.
But last month, several top computer experts who were brought in to analyze the system criticized it, saying it could be penetrated by hackers, criminals, terrorists or foreign governments.
The Pentagon says the system is still being certified and so won't be used for the South Carolina primary.
An online report from the experts gave more detail on the problems last month. The official site for the online voting experiment also has information on the system.
