Filing in Md. targets Diebold
Two law firms representing opponents of electronic voting have filed for a preliminary injunction to stop Maryland from using Diebold Inc.'s machines in November.
The motion follows an April lawsuit that was filed for the same reason.
Many states, including Ohio, have scaled back plans to buy e-voting machines for the fall elections. Maryland intends to use them statewide, though, and the plaintiffs called their motion ``the last and only opportunity to avert... an electoral train wreck.''
Green-based Diebold, which supplies machines to all of Maryland, says they are safe, secure and accurate.
