Press Release: Audit The Vote
NEW MEXICO COMMUNITY LEADERS, AUDIT THE VOTE ENCOURAGE EXPEDIENCE IN VOTE RECOUNT
Training for Monitors Begins This Weekend
Community leaders and activists encouraged the Secretary of State today to begin the state's recount effort. There has been no formal response to the recount request from the Secretary's office. The recount, requested by Green Party Presidential Candidate David Cobb and Libertarian Party Presidential Candidate Michael Badnarik, must begin no later than next Monday or Tuesday in order to comply with state law.
"We are eager for the recount to get underway and be conducted in a meaningful manner so that we may ensure that Democracy is served," said Lowell Finley, chief counsel for the recount efforts in New Mexico. "The people of New Mexico have spoken and this is clearly something they want. I would ask that the Secretary of State work to complete the recount in a meaningful and timely manner so that everyone can enjoy the Christmas holiday with their families."
More than 800 volunteers have already come forward across the state to assist in monitoring recount efforts. Audit the Vote and Help America Recount will provide training for volunteers.
Audit the Vote is a group of concerned citizens, activists, and community leaders from across the country that was formed to ensure that our elections are fair and accurate.
It is critical that New Mexico's recount is completed because the state votes on a variety of different voting machines and a recount provides an opportunity to determine which machines and counting software are reliable and what requires repairs.
