Yakima County hopes to save money this fall by having everyone vote by mail.
County Auditor Corky Mattingly says 80 percent of county voters already vote by absentee ballot. She says having everyone go postal will eliminate polling costs. She says the total savings will be about $60,000.
County commissioners approved the switch to an all-mail primary tuesday morning. The decision comes just one year after the county invested $900,000 in new electronic voting machines. The county says the E-slates will still be available during the primary, but they'll just be in fewer locations. The county says regular polling locations with E-slate voting will be open for the November's general election.
