Primary Update: Dayton problems fixed (IN)
Journal and Courier 06 May 2008
Problems with a piece of equipment at a vote center site in Dayton caused a few headaches this morning.
According to Heather Maddox, the Democratic co-chairwoman of the county's Board of Election and Registration, an encoder at the vote center inside the Dayton United Methodist Church froze up around 6:30 a.m.
Maddox was able to deliver a new one by 7 a.m., solving the problem.
Encoders are the machines vote center workers use to get voters the cards they into the voting machines, she said.
Though voters were offered provisional ballots during the period the machine was down, a few voters got angry at poll workers, she said.
"The poll workers did everything they were trained to do," Maddox said. The failure of the machine was not their fault.
But overall, few problems are being reported throughout Tippecanoe County, Maddox said.
