Computer problems frustrate some on first day of early voting
South Florida Sun-Sentinel, August 12, 2008, By Mark Hollis
Early voting using new optical scanners was plagued Monday by a sluggish state computer system used to verify voters' identities.
At some voting sites in Palm Beach County, delays were nearly an hour and so severe that poll workers warned prospective voters it might be easier for them to return to vote another day.
State officials said Monday night that they resolved the problems and early voting should go more smoothly when polls reopen at 10 a.m. today.
Early voting for nonpartisan and primary elections takes place at eight polling sites in the county and runs through Aug. 24. The primary election day is Aug. 26, and the general election is Nov. 4.
