Manufacturer to examine faulty voting machines (PA)

SUNBURY County officials won't know exactly what caused the voting machine glitch in Northumberland County Tuesday until the later this month when representatives of the manufacturer examine them.
Residents who tried to vote for a straight-party ticket on the county's AccuVote paperless touch-screen machines were unable to see their choice of candidate displayed on the screen.
Although election officials insisted the votes registered and were counted, complaints filed by the state Republican Party prompted Judge Charles H. Saylor to order all 185 machines impounded for 20 days as soon as election officials were able to retrieve the votes from them.
The court order will keep the machines, made by Premier Election Solutions, in a locked room at the county Administration Building until Nov. 25.
"After 20 days we'll have the company that sold us the machines look at them," Commissioner Vinny Clausi said.
He has no doubt that, despite the apparent glitch, all ballots cast by county voters were properly received and tallied.
As of Friday, no vote results had been challenged in the county.
