Voting Machine Mess-up Du Jour (Displayed 11/26/04)

Arizona. November, 2004.
Senator John McCain describes a "disgraceful" presidential election.

According to international observers, including the IRI delegation and another led by the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), election day was marred by voter list problems, multiple voting, interference by unauthorized persons into the electoral process, and the expulsion of observers and journalists from polling stations. IRI found that in a number of polling stations, the percentage of votes certified by the Central Election Commission exceeded 100% of total voters.

This is simply disgraceful.*

We invite Senator McCain to browse through our news reports of voter list problems, multiple voting, interference by unauthorized persons into the electoral process, and the expulsion of observers and journalists from vote-counting offices during the recent presidential election in the United States.

Our log of news reports also includes widespread incidents of registration fraud, voter intimidation, exceedingly long lines, machine malfunctions, vote suppression, malfeasance on the part of election officials, and tens of thousands of absentee ballots that never reached the voters who requested them.
