Also, on Tuesday, a problem with voting machines in all three early-voting locations briefly delayed a test that the Election Commission runs to make sure the machines are ready to be put into service in an election, Election Commission chairman John Brown Jr. said Tuesday. That didn't prevent anyone from voting - they always had the option of using a paper ballot. And in any case, it didn't take long for the voting machines to be brought up to speed, he said Tuesday. "(Each machine ) just didn't want to open right. (It was ) a glitch in the program," for the electronic voting machines, Brown said.

JAMES MILLER Daytona Beach News-Journal 29 January 2008 The county's canvassing board decided Monday to scan the ballots a second time because of a four-ballot discrepancy from the site at City Island, Supervisor of Elections Ann McFall said. McFall said she received an advisory from the equipment's vendor last week saying similar problems had been encountered elsewhere.

ROGER DROUIN Southwest Florida Herald Tribune 29 January 2008 Problems were reported with two optical scan machines this morning as voters
went to the polls. At Precinct 125, in Colonial Oaks Park, an optical scanner
was out of order from 7:15 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., according to voters at the
precinct. A precinct supervisor would not confirm how long the machine was down,
but said the problem was caused by a paper jam, and that poll workers fixed it.
He declined to elaborate.

Paige St. John Pensacola News Journal TALLAHASSEE Florida county election supervisors were warned just last week
about an "intermittent" glitch in their optical scan voting machines. Records
obtained by Gannett show Diebold Election Systems which has changed its name to
Premier Election Solutions sent county election officials a "product advisory
note" on Friday about its AccuVote optical scan systems. There are 32 Florida
counties that use the Diebold voting machines.

In some cases, it might have been voter error people who failed to register

Beach County Supervisor of Elections Arthur Anderson said. Although a backup
tape allowed elections staff to recoup the results, Anderson said the problem
was so significant it may lead to the elections office having to reprogram all
of its voting machines.

JENNIFER SORENTRUE and HECTOR FLORIN Palm Beach Post 26 January 2008 Several Palm Beach County voters who tried to cast ballots early Friday were
turned away, and others were forced to spend extra time at the polls because of
a computer problem at early voting sites. The wireless Internet cards that poll
workers use to quickly verify voters' political affiliation, which ballot they
should receive and whether they are actually registered to vote stopped working
properly for about three hours late Friday morning.
