Times-Herald, Vallejo, October 28, 2008. By Tony Burchyns Solano County election officials said they will be unable to meet the record demand for issuing early ballots through the mail to voters. That means an unknown number of people likely between 500 and 1,000 won't be getting ballots sent to them despite making requests on their registration forms, Assistant Registrar of Voters Lindsey McWilliams said Monday.

CNN Associate Producer Martina Stewart 28 October 2008 A caller from Beaumont, Texas reports that his mother, who he accompanied to the polls, had problems assuring the electronic touch screen machine was accurately recording her preference for Sen. Barack Obama. “She went to punch the ion for Obama and it flipped to McCain,” the caller said. “They need to do something about this. They need to separate the names. Put ‘em apart, pretty much. Side-by-side instead of stacked on top of one another. This issue needs to be addressed,” said the caller.

A few voters from different counties continue to experience problems with electronic machines during early voting. Eleven early voters from three counties - Jackson, Putnam and Berkeley - previously reported having problems with voting machines to the Charleston Gazette. At least five more voters in three other counties - Ohio, Monongalia and Greenbrier - recently reported similar problems.

An apparent computer glitch informed poll workers that ballots couldn't be provided to several would-be voters at the Park City Library.

More than 126,000 people voted early in Davidson County, which tops the early voting totals that broke records in 2004. However, despite the record numbers, a growing concern has been raised that some of the machines are malfunctioning and counting the vote for the wrong candidate. Channel 4's Deanna Lambert reported that a couple of early voters said they were left with doubts after casting their ballots.

A Redfield alderman candidate who may have lost votes due to an error on Redfield and Altheimer early voting ballots expressed dismay on Saturday that such a mistake could occur. “I’m kind of speechless that this happened,” said Brenda Carmical, Redfield alderman candidate, Ward 2, Position 2. “I would like to know how many have voted to this point to see how many votes we may have missed. We have a problem in Redfield where many don’t get out to vote so it usually comes down to the nitty gritty. If someone has voted already, it could really have a significant impact on the results. Our last mayor won by only three votes.”

Stephanie O'Malley, Denver's clerk and recorder, said Saturday nearly 11,000 ballots that had been reported missing Friday had never been prepared by the vendor. O'Malley said an investigation led by the Denver Elections Division discovered that the vendor didn't prepare the mail-in ballots "due to a technical problem with the data file on the vendor's end."
